The Bloglines Web Services (BWS) let software developers access Bloglines subscription and feed data directly from computer programs. Bloglines uses a RESTful API consisting of a set of URLs, which return data in RSS and OPML formats.

Bloglines がついに Web Services を提供開始。完全な REST スタイルで、OPML / RSS でリスティングや更新アイテムを取得します。エラーや Not Modified なんかは HTTP Status で表現。詳しくは API Guide をどうぞ。

もちろん一般のデベロッパー向けにも公開されていますが、きっかけとしては New Bloglines Web Services Selected by FeedDemon, NetNewsWire and Blogbot to Eliminate RSS Bandwidth Bottleneck ということで、RSS リーダがフィードの更新チェックするときに、個別のクライアントがチェックするのは Bandwidth のムダが多すぎるから、Bloglines で一括してチェックしてあげましょう、ということのようです。NetNewsWire, FeedDemon, BlogBot の作者と共同で API を開発したようですね。

"By partnering with Bloglines, we are now able to offer the rich desktop functionality FeedDemon customers have come to expect, with the flexible mobility and portability of a web service."

FeedDemon は Bloglines Sync API を使用して、複数のマシン上にインストールされた RSS リーダーで、Subscription や最終更新時刻を Bloglines 上に同期できるようになる、と。 こうなると RSS リーダーソフト自体が、Bloglines のクライアントインタフェースになる感じですね。

こうしたサーバ型アグリゲータと、クライアントリーダとの連携はとてもエキサイティングですね。Bulkfeeds でも一部のデータを Web Services API として公開し、いくつかの クライアントソフト (サーバサイド含む) で採用されています。
